The Hammond Capital Improvement Board approved Funding Allocation #318 on April 6 to fund the 100th & 65th Street community crossing project from Kennedy Avenue to Grand Avenue, with a total project cost of $1,744,896.40. The Indiana Department of Transportation awarded Hammond a matching grant covering 50% of the cost—$872,448.20—after the city submitted low-bid results; the low responsive and responsible bidder was identified as Rees Riley Construction Company.
"We received an award letter congratulating us for receiving that community matching grant in the amount of $872,448.20, which is 50% of the total cost of this project," President Button said. The board indicated the INDOT program had additional funds allocated by the state legislature and was first-come, first-served.
The vote proceeded after a roll call; the meeting record shows six votes in favor and one "no vote" recorded as the result of a lost transmission (the member on Zoom could not cast a vote). With board concurrence, staff will bring the agreement to the Board of Public Works and Safety for signature and proceed with contracting with Rees Riley Construction Company.
