City to lower free drop weight and adjust tire fees at spring clean-up events

Public Works staff proposed changes to the city's two annual complimentary community clean-up events to keep the program within DEQ daily tonnage limits. Staff recommended reducing the free weight allowance from 800 pounds to 500 pounds, requiring appliances with compressors or refrigerant to be delivered to the County Road recycling depot, and charging $8 for passenger/SUV tires and $12 for passenger truck tires during the event; payments would be cash only with bills no larger than $20.
Councilor John Lyon moved to adopt Resolution No. 2593 implementing the changes and to advertise the cash-only requirement in utility bills and flyers; Councilor Destiny Jensen seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Staff said the spring clean-up dates are April 10 and 11 and that Les Schwab charges $4.99 per passenger tire for recycling outside the event.
