Council accepts $10,000 CIS grant to help fund police body-worn cameras

Finance Director Laurie Bubar reported the Milton-Freewater Police Department was awarded a $10,000 Public Safety Grant from City County Insurance Services to offset part of a $104,711 body-worn camera project. Bubar told the council the grant was not included in the FY26 budget and required a supplemental appropriation under Oregon Budget Law; Councilor John Lyon requested and was told a body camera policy exists and the council would receive a copy.
Councilor John Lyon moved to adopt Resolution No. 2591 to make the appropriations necessary to accept the grant; Councilor Steve Irving seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The council did not adopt policy changes at the meeting; staff said the policy would be provided to councilors for review.
