Staff urges Deer Lodge to adopt formal safety and health policy after MMI audit

"The city of Deer Lodge does not have a current safety and health policy in place," the staff member said, and added that the recommendations include training employees on newly adopted policies and adopting related procedures such as lockout/tagout and confined‑space protocols. The staff member said MMI "came in and did a risk management evaluation on us" to develop the packet of recommendations.
Committee members agreed to treat the packet as informational at this meeting; no formal motion to adopt the policy was made. Staff indicated the item is expected to be taken to the council in August for further consideration. The staff presentation emphasized that adherence to the Montana Safety Culture Pack and the municipal officials handbook was part of the recommended compliance measures.
