Acton selectmen adopt 2022 General Assistance maximums with burial allowance added

Selectmen adopted the Town of Acton’s 2022 General Assistance (GA) maximums following a public hearing at the Sept. 29 meeting.
The Town Administrator presented changes: overall maximums were updated following U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidance; food maximums were adjusted to match the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Food Stamp program; housing maximums decreased per State of Maine housing guidance; and, for the first time, allowances for burial and cremation were added. The board was told that reimbursements, if an eligible resident applies, are rated at 50% under the adopted schedule.
Selectmen Ed Walsh moved to adopt the 2022 GA maximums; Selectmen Kimberly Stacey-Horn seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The Administrator noted that “there are not many in Acton that qualify for State general assistance due to the financial requirement levels,” and highlighted local programs such as Neighbors Helping Neighbors that assist residents outside GA eligibility.
The board closed the hearing with no public comment and the measure now stands as the town’s 2022 schedule. The town advised residents who believe they may qualify to contact the town office for application details.
