The Town of Acton Select Board voted to hire Ed Walsh as the town's Transfer Station Superintendent and handyman after receiving four applications for a newly combined 40-hour position. Selectman David Winchell Jr. said one candidate stood above the rest; the board approved the hire on motion with Walsh abstaining.
Walsh told the board he appreciated their due diligence in the hiring process and said that, to take the new job, he will resign his Selectmen seat effective Nov. 5, 2021. The board accepted the resignation on motion and instructed the clerk's office to prepare for a special election to fill the vacancy. The transcript records that the board’s motions to hire and to accept the resignation carried with standard approval votes (Walsh abstained on both).
