Lennar seeks rezoning for Heron Landing; council votes down proposal

Lennar Homes told the Winfield Town Council it seeks to rezone about 80 acres at the northwest corner of 117th Avenue and Gibson Street to a planned-unit development for a 146-lot subdivision called Heron Landing. Todd Cleven, vice president of land for Lennar Homes, said the project would include homes with an average selling price of roughly $550,000 and that the company would contribute "$450,000 for road improvements that could be used towards 117th Avenue or elsewhere".
Council members debated the application and several raised concerns about how the rezoning reached the council and whether the town's goals for density and drainage had been met. The council took an up-or-down vote on the zoning change; a roll-call read by the clerk recorded Zach Beaver — No; Tim Clayton — No; Dave Anderson — Yes; Amy Blaker — No; John DeWinski — No, and the motion failed.
