The Washington County Planning Commission voted unanimously to grant a special-exception permit to Profile Welding, allowing owner Eric Thompson to operate a welding shop on about 13.49 acres at 18311 Limestone Drive.
Thompson told the commission he is a sole operator who built a 60-by-30 metal building on the property and that his work is primarily steel repairs for farmers and truck-bed installs. "It's just me," Thompson said, describing his business and saying he does not plan to hire employees. Commissioners asked about hours (Thompson said roughly 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, no weekends) and expected traffic levels; Thompson said he did not expect heavy traffic from the site.
Staff had described the site context, noting the building sits about 180 feet from the road and approximately 15 feet from the property line with High Point Baptist Church. After brief questions from commissioners, a motion to grant the special exception was moved and seconded and the commission approved the permit unanimously.
The approval allows the applicant to operate the welding business subject to any conditions the Board of Supervisors or staff may later attach when the commission forwards its recommendation per the county process. The commission closed the public hearing on the Thompson application before moving to the next agenda item.
