Matt Maloney, assistant coach for Skyline High School, told the governor's ceremony that the 2026 Skyline Spartans combined across programs for a 44-3 record and that the varsity team produced standout performances in the postseason. Maloney credited character, coaching and family support and said, "As someone who's coached in this program for 8 years, I can say without hesitation that the 2026 Skyline Spartans were the finest team in school history."
He named four players present—Piper Swanson, Elan Eggison, Shace Staley and Abby Hoppola—and noted Abby's no-hitter in the state championship game. Maloney recognized the varsity coaching staff and former coaches who helped build the program and thanked Gov. Ferguson for the honor of the recognition.
Skyline's remarks concluded the formal presentations before the event moved to photographs and an open-floor reception for families and coaches.
