St. Louis County reports more than 100 cyclospora cases, urges residents to answer investigators

St. Louis County health officials said the county is investigating a multi-county cyclospora outbreak and has recorded more than 100 local cases. "As of today, total case counts are 117," said Dr. Kanika Cunningham, director of the St. Louis County Department of Public Health, noting investigators have interviewed more than 90 people to identify common grocery stores, suppliers or restaurant meals.
County officials emphasized that interviews are confidential and asked residents to answer or return calls from investigators. "If the St. Louis County Health Department calls you, please take that call," Dr. Page said, adding that a short conversation can provide the "puzzle piece" needed to pinpoint the source and protect neighbors.
Cunningham outlined the public-health work that feeds outbreak response — routine food-establishment and pool inspections — and said teams are visiting stores to remove recalled lettuce and providing guidance to food-service establishments. She recommended washing all fresh fruits and vegetables under running water and, if extra caution is desired while dining out, choosing cooked vegetables or hot meals.
The county said it is coordinating with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration while continuing to update the public as actionable findings emerge.
