Acton defers salt contract decision while seeking lower COG price

Town staff reported Eastern Salt (which had acquired Granite State) submitted a bid of $68.23 per ton; the COG winning bid is $58.00 per ton. Morton had a competing price of $63.55 per ton. Marianne Alexander of the Southern Maine Planning Commission told the board she would follow up to resolve a tonnage-discrepancy that is preventing Acton from being listed at the $58.00 rate.
The board granted one week to resolve membership/tonnage details with the COG before returning to the item. Selectmen framed the delay as an attempt to secure the lowest available price for the town; no vendor was awarded at the meeting.
