Resident reports June 24 flooding; board advises stormwater route

Kim Lenti, who gave her address as 11204 Putnam Drive in Stonegate Commons, told the Winfield Sewer Board that a large rainstorm on June 24 flooded the east/south end of her block and left water up to garage doors, preventing access to 4–6 homes.

“This water was coming from the school, the little preschool down in, and it affected 4 to 6 of the homes not being able to get in,” Lenti said. Board members asked for Lenti’s name and address for the record and clarified whether the issue was a sanitary sewer or stormwater problem. The chair replied that this matter would typically be handled by the stormwater board rather than the sewer board.

Board members explained that Winfield does not have combined sewers—where stormwater and sanitary flows are carried in the same pipe—so stormwater is unlikely to be entering the town’s sanitary system. One committee member told Lenti that she should raise the issue at the stormwater meeting so staff there can evaluate surface drainage, culverts and local conveyance.

The board took no formal action on the report during the sewer meeting and directed the resident to the appropriate stormwater venue for follow-up.
