Lake Arrowhead CSD: PFOA 16 ppt, PFOS 6 ppt; treated water remains below state and proposed EPA limits

Operations Manager Matt Brooks reported lab results from August 20, 2025 showing PFOA at 16 ppt and PFOS at 6 ppt; blended treated water from the IX plant tested below California concentrations and limits currently proposed by EPA. At the September 23 board meeting, Operations Manager Matt Brooks gave the district's monthly PFAS update and reviewed sampling taken August 20, 2025. He reported that PFOA measured 16 parts per trillion (ppt) and PFOS measured 6 ppt. "The blended, treated water from the IX Plant continues to test below both the concentrations required by the State of California and the limits currently proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency," Brooks reported.
Brooks said coordination is ongoing with the Division of Drinking Water and N2W Engineering and that 100% design plans for required treatment upgrades will be available in the coming weeks. He further noted recent federal rulemaking updates indicate the EPA may rescind certain standards and extend compliance deadlines to 2031. No board action was required; staff will continue monitoring and pursue design completion and regulatory coordination.
