The Lake Arrowhead Community Services District heard an update on per‑ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on Aug. 26, 2025. Operations Manager Matt Brooks reported a Bernina blended water sample tested at 9.2 parts‑per‑trillion (ppt), which the minutes record as slightly higher than prior results but still below California's Response Level of 10 ppt.
Brooks said the small uptick was likely linked to recent groundwater system downtime and emphasized that required lake testing remains ongoing. "The small increase in concentration is likely attributable to recent periods of groundwater system downtime," the minutes state. He told the Board the District's PFAS treatment project is roughly 90% through design and that staff and N2W Engineering are reviewing comments from the Division of Drinking Water (DDW); final plans are expected to be completed and submitted within the next several months.
The minutes record that the Board was informed the EPA compliance deadlines for PFAS mitigation and treatment have been extended to 2031 and that the District expects to be ahead of that timeline. No formal action was taken at the meeting.
