District reports steady PFAS sampling; treatment design plans complete

Operations and engineering staff reported quarterly PFAS results consistent with previous quarters and said PFAS treatment designs are 100% complete; additional tributary samples after heavy rain showed detections likely linked to runoff.
Operations Manager Matt Brooks updated the Board that quarterly PFAS sampling from raw-water sources (Bernina, Well #2 and Well #5) remained consistent with prior quarters and that PFAS treatment design plans are now 100% complete.
"PFAS treatment design plans are now 100% complete," Brooks told the Board and said staff continue implementation discussions with N2W Engineering. He also noted that additional tributary samples collected after a recent storm (over three inches of rain) showed notable contaminant detections likely attributable to community runoff entering the watershed.
Board members asked about the effect of runoff and lake geography on water quality; Brooks explained Lake Arrowhead's bowl-like watershed concentrates runoff into the lake and that the District is collecting extra tributary samples to better understand storm-driven inputs. Staff noted ongoing coordination with engineering consultants on treatment timing and permitting steps.
