DRB clarifies driveway classification, says emergency‑turnaround spacing not required for existing access
Summary
During deliberations the board debated whether the access from Route 116 is a driveway or road and whether additional emergency turnarounds were required; staff confirmed the access is a driveway and that the 500‑foot spacing requirement would not apply to the existing driveway to the pit.

Board members questioned whether the access serving the proposed lots and an existing gravel pit should be classified as a driveway or a road and whether more than one emergency turnaround was required.
Member Luke McCarthy asked whether the feature was a driveway or road; Zoning Administrator Stephen Rooney confirmed it is a driveway because of the number of residences served. McCarthy expressed concern about whether additional emergency vehicle turnarounds or bypasses were needed given the length; the board concluded that because the driveway to the pit is existing the spacing requirement (every 500 feet) would not apply.
The board included standard subdivision conditions in the draft decision and had no additional conditions related to that access question.
