St. Lucie board hears rollout of Rohrer Academy before-and-after-care pilot at Tradition Lakes K-8

St. Lucie Public Schools announced a pilot before-and-after-care program called Rohrer Academy at Tradition Lakes K-8 that officials said will begin in August. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Weilman told the board the pilot is already enrolling families and that staff are finalizing hiring and registration.

"As of today, there are over 85 students enrolled in Rohrer Academy, and that number is climbing every day," Dr. Weilman said, describing hours (6:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on school days, with full-day care on early dismissal days) and a fee schedule developed after a market analysis. Weilman said the program is designed to deliver enrichment activities rather than just tutoring and that the district developed job descriptions, fee schedules, materials lists and IT/finance procedures required for billing and enrollment tracking.

Weilman credited Denise Rodriguez and Principal Latonya Green for coordinating with parents and school staff, and said the offering had been well received. The district will provide badges and parking passes for eligible high-school students and will train school staff to identify contracted students in Skyward and other systems.

Board members asked to see fee details; one board member noted the monthly line on the fee slide appeared as "$2.54," a figure Weilman described as comparative to other providers and said the district considered reasonable. The district characterized Rohrer Academy as a replicable model pending a year of implementation and additional evaluation.
