Fire chief reports Waymo training, paramedic progress and joint hazmat exercises

In his staff update on July 28, the chief told the board the district and regional partners completed training related to prospective Waymo autonomous-vehicle operations, running separate sessions for police and fire personnel so responders can prepare for incidents involving autonomous vehicles.
The chief also reported that an employee, Kyle Murchison, has completed classroom (didactic) training and has moved into clinical and internship phases of paramedic schooling and congratulated him on that progress. The district also ran a multi-agency hazmat drill involving an oil-spill scenario that used a boat obtained via prior grant funding.
Vegetation-management work and weed-abatement efforts have continued in June and July with coordination from public works and grazing contractors; the chief said recent mowing near Meadow Bay Drive likely helped limit the fire's spread during the marshland incident. The department completed drone training sessions with the police department and used drones during the incident to gain situational awareness where ground access was difficult.
The chief thanked partners and volunteers, reminded residents about National Night Out (Aug. 4), and recognized the work of the department PIO in incident communications.
