Treasurer reports CISA cybersecurity assessment complete, warns of PEIA premium jump and promotes flu clinic and hurricane donations

Treasurer Leslie Cummings reported several operational and community items at the Oct. 8 council meeting. She said the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) completed a cybersecurity risk assessment of the town’s water, sewer and billing operations on Oct. 8, 2024. Cummings also told the council that PEIA premiums for the next fiscal year are expected to increase by about 14 percent and that deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums for employees are increasing by at least 100 percent, prompting a scheduled supervisors meeting to develop options to present to council.
Cummings also reminded residents that a Flu Shot Clinic is scheduled for Oct. 11, 2024 from 9:00–10:30 a.m. and proposed that the town accept donations for Hurricane Helene victims, suggesting Samaritan’s Purse or the Cajun Navy 2016 as recipient organizations. The minutes record the proposed donation plan but do not indicate a council decision on which charity to use.
