Library director wins board approval to temporarily close crosswalk for painted mural

"My name is Jason Fields. I'm the director at the public library," Jason Fields said when introducing the crosswalk-art proposal and the artist’s submitted design. Fields told the Board of Works the city provided paint under a memorandum of understanding and that the library has approval from the street department for a short, temporary closure of the crosswalk area between the county lot and the library entrance on Aug. 14–15 so the artist can paint the crosswalk.
Fields said the plan is to barricade only the small section with the crosswalk while leaving adjacent entrances open and that the closure will last a few days to accommodate the artist’s work. A board member moved to approve the closure; the motion was seconded and the board approved the request.
