Chamber asks Tipton to close Jefferson Street for Aug. 7 1st Friday; board approves with safety conditions

Ryan Harden, director of the County Chamber of Commerce, asked the Tipton City Board of Works to close Jefferson Street between Maine and Independence on Aug. 7 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to support downtown 1st Fridays and involve more retailers. "Requesting that Jefferson Street be closed between Maine and Independence on August 7 from 4 to 7PM to support the downtown 1st Fridays," Harden said during the meeting.
Harden told the board the closure is intended to bring foot traffic to retailers on Jefferson Street and to host vendors and food trucks. He said department heads approved the request with conditions, including keeping an emergency lane open and using barricades that can be moved quickly if emergency vehicles need access. The board moved to approve the closure, the motion was seconded and the vote carried. The approval includes the stipulation that all representative parties coordinate with the city fire department to ensure emergency access.
