Energy committee wins $200,000 state grant for town office and garage upgrades

Dana Patoine of the Sutton Energy Committee told the Select Board the committee received a $200,000 state grant to implement recommendations from an energy audit for the town office and the highway garage. Under the grant terms described in the meeting, the state will pay 20 percent up front to contractors; the town must continue documenting the work as it progresses and complete the projects by December 31, 2026. Dana told the board approximately $30,000 of the grant would be allocated to a general contractor and asked for input on who to consider for that role.
The audit identified several potential upgrades: replacing the heating system, insulating the attic, installing an air-exchange system, replacing windows and doors, upgrading office lighting and installing solar panels on the town clerk’s roof. Patoine said she will investigate how other towns handled contractor selection and whether replacing the garage roof would qualify for grant funding before returning with recommendations.
