Council moves forward with phased water-rate increases

The council introduced Resolution 2026-R-13 to increase water rates under the same multi-year structure used for wastewater: a larger increase this year and next, with smaller increases over the remaining years, and rates that vary by in-town/out-of-town customers and pipe size. The chair said the resolution would be effective Aug. 1.
During the discussion a resident, Desire Toll, raised a practical concern: she said there are currently no installers available locally to do required work and suggested the city consider maintaining a list of contractors or installers that residents could consult. "So my thought is it might be nice if we did some sort of an invitation to open up a list of people for the future," Toll said. The chair thanked her and said staff would try to locate resources.
A council member moved and the council recorded a second to pass Resolution 2026-R-13; council discussion proceeded to a recorded vote as part of the meeting's utility rate items.
