Heritage Pines board approves $19,200 lake-algae contract with Premier Lakes

The Heritage Pines Community Development District Board voted unanimously Oct. 15 to hire Premier Lakes, Inc. for pond algae treatment under a $19,200 contract, which District Manager Chuck Adams said would save the district about $3,200 per year compared with the existing SOLitude contract.
Adams presented the Premier Lakes proposal and told the board he would initiate SOLitude’s 30-day termination so SOLitude’s services would end on Nov. 30 and Premier Lakes would begin on Dec. 1. Resident Susan Napolitano asked what chemical SOLitude uses; Adams said, “a copper-based product is used to target algae. The odor is a product of the degasification of the algae, which lasts a couple of days.”
On motion by Supervisor Michael Walsh and seconded by Assistant Secretary Carol Vaughan, the board approved the Premier Lakes, Inc. proposal for pond algae treatment in the amount of $19,200. The motion passed with all supervisors voting in favor.
The board noted the Premier Lakes report would provide more detailed pond-treatment information, and Adams said he would follow up with SOLitude about compensating the district for perceived poor performance in treated areas.
