Board introduces change to impervious-surface limits in suburban commercial district

The commissioners introduced Amendment #1 to Ordinance 26-06, which would increase the maximum impervious surface ratio for commercial and industrial uses in the suburban commercial district (for properties in operation prior to 12/31/2025) from 45% to 65%. Staff described the change as an amendment to pending legislation and moved to convey it to the planning commission for review.
Jay Falstad of the Queen Anne's Conservation Association told the board he supports careful public hearings but said the current process for text amendments is flawed when amendments appear to be written for the benefit of a single landowner. "These text amendments are brought forward for the benefit of one landowner... the process needs to be reversed so that it starts at the top and goes downward," Falstad said.
Commissioners approved introduction and referral to the planning commission; no adoption vote was taken at the meeting.
