Siren School District holds listening session to gather community input

Katie Tewold, president of the Siren School District school board, opened a town-hall style listening session at 5:30 p.m., telling attendees: "This evening is not intended to be a traditional school board meeting. We're not here to make any decisions tonight." She said the board’s goal was to hear directly from students, families and staff so future decisions reflect community priorities.
Tewold described the format: attendees would break into small groups for about 45 minutes at tables focused on activities and athletics, consolidation, referendum, academics and partnerships. She said board members would collect written notes, condense them into minutes, and share the results publicly; the board also paused the YouTube livestream during small-group conversations to protect discussion flow. The session included a short procedural vote to approve the meeting agenda before the small-group work began.
