Commission accepts a voter registration appeal after felony checkbox error

The Coffee County Election Commission reviewed a voter registration appeal July 9 and voted to accept the appeal after staff checked state records. Administrator Andy Farrar described that the voter originally marked "yes" to the felony question on the registration form, prompting the office to mail information on restoration of voting rights and an appeal form.
The voter returned a signed appeal form stating under penalty of perjury that she had not had a felony and that the checkbox had been marked by mistake. Staff ran the registrant through the State felon database and found no record of a felony. Commissioner Larry McIntosh moved to accept the appeal and process the registration; Secretary Barbara Arp seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
