Coffee County Election Commission approves pay increases for election officials

The Coffee County Election Commission voted July 9 to approve a new pay structure for election officials ahead of the Aug. 6, 2026 election. Commissioner Larry McIntosh moved to adopt the schedule and Secretary Barbara Arp seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Administrator Andy Farrar told commissioners the proposed increases respond to outdated pay scales and staffing needs. The approved schedule sets Officers of Election and Failsafe Officers at $150 per election; Registrars, Machine Operators, Counting Board members and Nursing Home Officials at $125 per election; Early Voting office officials at $80 per day; CD Stamps officials at $70 per day; Early Voting part-time/hourly at $10.00 per hour; Machine Technicians and Delivery Drivers at $17.00 per hour; and training pay of $50 for Officers and $20 for other officials. Farrar said the County Commission approved the Election Commission’s FY 2026-2027 budget at the end of June.
Commissioners discussed that Machine Technicians and Delivery Drivers had not received an increase in more than 10 years and that the new rates aim to help recruit and retain staff for early voting and Election Day operations. The change takes effect for future elections; the Commission recorded the motion and unanimous vote in the minutes. The Commission also noted upcoming training and staffing steps as it prepares for the Aug. 6, 2026 election.
