Trustees, REMSA and local responders plan workshop to address ambulance coverage and staffing

Trustees and REMSA representatives told the board they will organize a regional workshop to coordinate ambulance coverage, funding and workforce training across northern Nye County and neighboring communities. Kevin, speaking for REMSA, said the district’s current three-year contract expires Dec. 31 and recommended forming a working group with a trustee liaison to identify funding, operational changes and possible county support.
"The current 3 year contract is due up December 31 of this year," Kevin said, adding that REMSA had provided uninterrupted coverage for the past year and stressing the importance of advanced life support for long transports and multi-casualty incidents. Firefighter and EMT Elizabeth Field described local staffing limits and transport constraints to the clinic: "I am a firefighter and an EMT... my availability during the day is very limited," she said, noting volunteer schedules and childcare responsibilities reduce daytime coverage.
Trustees asked that county officials (Tim Sutton or assistant Lorena), the fire chief (Gerald Yeager), volunteer ambulance leaders, Frontier Medical and regional partners be invited. The board directed staff to circulate possible dates and aim for a Friday meeting before the end of September so workforce and funding solutions can be developed quickly.
