At the May 20 meeting URPA Executive Director LeeAnn Powell presented two association awards recognizing Pleasant Grove staff. The 2025 Outstanding Professional in Parks, Facilities, and Maintenance award went to Bill Candland, who the minutes record has served Pleasant Grove for 18 years and is described as “the first person people call.” The Recreation Department received the 2025 Outstanding Adaptive Program Award; LeeAnn Powell said the program exemplifies the three pillars of parks and recreation: health and wellness, access to all, and environmental stewardship.
Recreation Director Megan Zollinger described the program’s origins and credited a parent who advocated for services and now serves on a parent advisory group. “The Recreation Center is not just a gym or place to play games. They are trying to make a real impact in the worlds of fitness, aquatics, sports, and senior and adaptive programming,” Zollinger said, and thanked the City Council for their support. Photographs were taken with the Council during the award presentation.
