Council forms Round 4 task force, signals review of old firehouse site for affordable units

The Common Council amended governance for the Round 4 affordable-housing task force, then adopted a resolution appointing initial members to the body tasked with advising on implementation details for the city's court-directed housing obligation.
Council member Chris (speaker 12) moved to appoint seven residents to the task force and to remove overly prescriptive neighborhood-designation constraints so the council could include more qualified applicants. The council added a representative from the neighborhood adjacent to the old firehouse site.
Council president (speaker 1) and other members emphasized they will begin a more open, inclusive review of the old firehouse property (a significant municipal asset) and study whether that site could yield additional affordable units or otherwise be used to reduce pressure on other planned sites. The city administrator reminded the public that proceeds from a sale would typically be placed into a reserve and applied to debt service per municipal practice.
The council also stressed the task force is intended to advise on infrastructure, traffic, school impacts and neighborhood concerns and said the group would meet on an as-needed basis and possibly in subcommittees for specific neighborhoods.
