Board hires transportation supervisor; Ortiz says two buses back in service

The Calipatria Unified School District Board on Aug. 12 approved an employment agreement appointing Juan Carlos Flores as Transportation Supervisor for PK–12 services. The motion was moved by Trustee Patty Dockstader, seconded by Trustee Timothy Morales, and passed by roll call vote of 7 ayes.
During the Superintendent's operations report, Angelita V. Ortiz said, “we have two of our buses back and one still needs an oil change.” Maintenance lead Ben Saiza reported completed cleaning and waxing of the gym, cafeterias and classrooms, and that technicians replaced five air-conditioning units and five compressors. Trustees discussed work-order prioritization and procurement: Trustee Timothy Morales asked about routing urgent requests directly to maintenance and Trustee Michael Fong suggested a separate credit card for maintenance; Ortiz explained the district uses a single credit card with business-office approval because of prior misuse.
The transportation hire and operational details come ahead of the new school year and are intended to support student transport and facility readiness.
