Council approves night‑work noise permit for pavement preservation

Public Works Director Neal Winterton explained that pavement preservation work sometimes requires nighttime operations to avoid traffic conflicts and meet construction timelines. The council approved a permit to exceed the City’s Noise Ordinance to allow Geneva Rock Products to perform level course, scrub seal and micro surfacing from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. between May 1 and August 31, 2025, and directed staff to provide as much public notice as possible when night work is scheduled.
Winterton said no night work was scheduled at present but staff needs the flexibility to respond to deadlines and traffic management concerns. “Work on leveling has already begun with the next phase being chip seal followed by the micro surfacing,” he said; the council approved the permit unanimously.
