Recreation Director Megan Zollinger said outdoor pool setup is underway and staff anticipates heavy participation for the Memorial Day program, which will feature a cardboard regatta, belly-flop contest, relay races, a DJ and a food truck. The pool is expected to open to the public on Thursday, May 22 at 1:30 PM, and the Memorial Day free swim event is scheduled from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Administrator Scott Darrington said the Cook Family Park Grand Opening on June 7 will include a short program and multiple exhibitions (pro skaters, high-school biking team, U.S. Soccer representatives and a dunk team), a child "passport" with seven stamp locations, photo booths, food trucks and an expected crowd of about 2,000 people. Staff proposed ending the day with a drone show (approximate cost $20,000) funded from CARE funds and stressed the need for a traffic and parking plan for the event.
Staff will coordinate County inspections and final safety approvals prior to opening and asked Council for feedback on using CARE funds for the drone show and for logistics planning.
