Council delays Recreation Center audio/PA purchase pending electrical cost estimate

Recreation Director Megan Zollinger told the Pleasant Grove City Council on May 6 that the current Recreation Center audio system is unusable and that a new system would require new wiring and back-end computer control.
Director Zollinger provided options and estimated the top two prioritized items (fitness rooms and a permanent PA system for hallways and closed rooms) at about $67,000, excluding electrical upgrades; she said, "the current system does not work at all." Council Member Steve Rogers expressed concern about the price and suggested doing wiring in the current year and installing the PA system later. Council Member Cyd LeMone agreed the fitness rooms were justifiable but questioned the expense for equipment used rarely in emergencies.
Administrator Scott Darrington recommended the Council postpone a final commitment until staff can supply a cost breakdown for the electrical work; he noted the Rec Center also serves as an emergency shelter and that the generator installation is planned soon. The Council removed the basketball gym from the current bid (an ~$80,000 item) and asked staff to return with the electrical estimate before including any audio work in the Final Budget.
