The Calipatria Unified Board on Feb. 11 accepted a $5,000 Robnett Education Foundation grant to support Calipatria High School's Robotics Program and approved the team's travel to a robotics tournament in San Diego scheduled for March 21–23, 2025. Trustee Michael Fong moved to accept the grant; Trustee Patty Dockstader seconded the motion. Both the grant acceptance and the travel authorization passed by roll-call votes of 7 ayes.
Mr. Padilla told the Board he applied for the Robnett grant on behalf of the robotics club. He also reported eight students are enrolled on the team and that he will serve as lead mentor with two or three chaperones for the San Diego trip; the district will use school vans for transportation. The robotics students earlier in the meeting described an app they created, Med Central, and the group said they had been offered an internship opportunity at Congressman Ruiz's office.
The grant funds and approved travel are intended to support student competition and program operations. Trustees approved both items with no recorded abstentions; staff will proceed with trip logistics and grant administration.
