County acknowledges roughly $5,500 shortfall after noxious weed levy omitted from tax statements
Summary
Auditor Bryan Elliott told commissioners a software error omitted an increased noxious weed levy (Resolution 2025-215) from 3,532 tax statements. The Assessor and Treasurer will post taxes as issued; any temporary shortfall—about $5,500—will be covered through county funds and reconciled later.

At the Board's Office Administration meeting, Bryan Elliott, Kittitas County Auditor, reported a software error that omitted the increased assessment approved under Resolution 2025-215 from mailed tax statements, affecting 3,532 parcels.
Elliott said reissuing corrected tax statements was deemed impractical because of cost and anticipated public impacts; instead, "the Assessor and Treasurer agreed to proceed by posting taxes as originally issued," and any resulting shortages will be temporarily addressed through the Treasurer's over/short fund and covered by the General Fund as needed. Elliott asked the Board to acknowledge "a temporary shortfall in the Noxious Weed fund of approximately $5,500," which his office expects will be reconciled by year-end and for which his office is prepared to facilitate a budget amendment if necessary.
County staff said all payments received — in person, online, autopay, and mortgage company remittances — will be captured and applied correctly once the tax roll is updated. The Assessor's and Treasurer's offices will review collection impacts after first-half payments and return to the Board with parcel-level numbers and any recommended adjustments.
The Board acknowledged the interim handling plan and thanked staff for their work resolving the error. No formal motion or vote was recorded beyond the Board's acknowledgement and the offices' plan to monitor and report back.
