Emergency Management Director Kristen Longville told the board the current burn ban should remain in place for another two weeks and the board agreed. Longville read Ordinance No. 76 (first reading), which would amend Ordinance No. 72 to require that any removal of a burn ban be approved jointly by the Kingsbury County Office of Emergency Management and the chairman of the Board of Commissioners, after gathering input from local fire chiefs; the ordinance takes effect 20 days after publication and the Board scheduled a second reading for May 5, 2026.
Longville also reported recent issues with the county's 911 radio lines and said she is researching options including fiber optic or 5G cellular service to replace aging lines; she will bring further information back to the Board. The Board approved the Emergency Management quarter 2 report and granted travel approval for Longville to attend a tabletop hazmat exercise in Yankton on May 27, 2026.
