The Kingsbury County Board of County Commissioners on April 21 adopted Resolution 2026-6, authorizing named county officials to request rangeland fire assistance under SDCL 41-20A-11 and appointing Echo Steffensen, County Auditor, as the County Rural Fire Coordinator effective May 20, 2026. Auditor Echo Steffensen presented and read the resolution to the board during the meeting and the motion to adopt was made by Commissioner Corey Lundquist and seconded by Commissioner Troy Nelson.
The resolution lists Emergency Management Director Kristen Longville and Sheriff Steve Strande among the individuals authorized to request assistance and designates the auditor as a single point of contact for administrative matters such as burn bans and billing. The board adopted the resolution by roll call; the motion carried with all present voting aye.
