The Cameron Park Community Services District board voted Feb. 25 to approve Resolution 2026-08, an amendment to the district's fire services agreement that adjusts position classifications to provide staffing flexibility at Stations 88 and 89.
Staff and the district's fire chief explained the change will shift one paramedic attribute from an engineer classification to a captain classification among 12 total personnel at the stations, while maintaining Advanced Life Support coverage on engines "at all times," a presenter said. Staff also noted the district's contract 'not to exceed' amount would not increase and may decline under the amendment.
Board members and speakers acknowledged persistent recruitment challenges for fire positions; one public commenter thanked CAL FIRE for flexibility in maintaining staffing. After discussion the board moved the resolution and approved it by roll call with unanimous 'Aye' votes from Directors Wilson, Gilchrist, Buzette and Israel.
The amendment is intended to preserve paramedic coverage while giving the fire services provider more flexibility in how classifications are assigned. The district indicated staff support for the change; the packet contained the presentation reviewed at the prior meeting.
