The parks permitting committee approved a permit and waived fees for Community Connections’ third annual back-to-school event, scheduled for Aug. 29 at Gage Field Park. Hamim (speaker 11), representing the youth-led group, told the board they expect "around a 100 to 200 people" and plan to provide sports, a bounce house and free backpacks for attendees.
Hamim said the group would use charcoal grills and requested support from City Hall for extra trash barrels. A staff member agreed to provide a hose and some barrels, and the committee moved to accept the date and time with custodial or equipment support as previously described. Committee members praised the group’s outreach; one member said, "You guys did a great job," before voting to waive the fee. Organizers were instructed to notify the fire department and to coordinate with parks staff for chairs and trash logistics before the event.
