Chair (speaker 1) led a string of motions that resulted in fee waivers for canceled or community-focused events, beginning when the board agreed to waive the fee for a canceled June 27 reservation so organizers would not be pursued for payment. Later, the board approved permit requests from Full Deliverance Church for a Kerouac Park worship service and from Lola Loves Wildlife for an Oct. 25 fundraiser and agreed to waive the resident adult fee in both cases. Christine Wilkins, founding member of Lola Loves Wildlife, described planned programming that will include live raptors and education about wildlife poisoning; she said the group would “bring baked goods” and tabling to raise funds and awareness.
Committee members emphasized safety and vendor requirements during approvals. Staff directed organizers to notify the fire department about charcoal grills and to ensure outside vendors (such as ice-cream trucks) are licensed. When Sam (speaker 9) asked about trash barrels and burn-bucket availability for his Aug. 1 basketball tournament and Aug. 7 kickball event, staff confirmed provisions and the board approved the dates and applicable fees. The committee consistently followed motions with seconds and unanimous votes: “All in favor? Aye,” the chair called after each proposal.
The committee closed the consent-style portion of the agenda by recording motions and tallying fee credits where prior rain cancellations occurred. Where applicants had previously paid, the board recorded credits to be applied against future permits and approved adjustments after confirming receipts with staff. The committee said it will continue to monitor custodial needs tied to particular events and insisted on licensed vendors and secure setup for inflatable equipment.
The board did not set additional policy changes at the meeting; in many cases approvals were narrowly tailored (date, time, location, and any conditions such as vendor licensing or notification to the fire department).
