Summary
After a closed-session discussion, council authorized staff to negotiate extending a tenant's vacate notice to 60 days (new move-out date proposed 9/13/2026) and voted that attorneys should not negotiate additional monetary settlements beyond amounts specified in a March 2022 contract (approximately $155,700 in escrowed rent).

Following public business, council went into executive session to discuss a city lease and related negotiations for property at 213 Richland Avenue West (tenant: Taj Aiken). In open-session recaps, staff explained the March 2022 contract with the tenant provided for rent held in escrow beginning December 2021 and identified a total escrowed amount of approximately $155,700 (rents plus security deposit).
Staff reported tenant counsel had requested an additional $100,000 beyond the contract amount. Council authorized the city attorney to negotiate a 60-day extension of the vacate notice (which would move the tenant's vacate date to Sept. 13, 2026) but voted that the attorney did not have authority to negotiate additional monetary settlements beyond what the original contract provides. The council recorded both motions as unanimous.
