Salina board approves consent agenda, hires financial consultant and forwards FY25 budget

The Salina School District Board of Education approved its consent agenda at the Sept. 9 regular meeting and took several routine financial steps for the 2024–25 fiscal year. Board President Leroy Monk made the motion to approve the consent agenda; Vice‑President Greg Rice seconded it and the vote was unanimous.
Among the consent items the board approved were minutes of the Aug. 12 meeting and new encumbrances: General Fund checks #176–#206 and #50184–#50191 totaling $59,389.47, Building Fund checks #24–#34 totaling $135,883.00, and Coop Fund checks #1–#7 totaling $7,158.00. The board also approved fundraisers, an annual School‑Based Health Services agreement with OHCA, an annual Head Start agreement with the Cherokee Nation, and the district English Learners Plan.
In a separate motion, the board contracted with Stephen L. Smith Corporation to serve as the district's financial consultant for FY25; the motion, made by Monk and seconded by Jackie Ball, passed 5‑0. The board then approved the FY25 Financial Statement and Estimate of Needs as prepared by the auditor and directed staff to forward the documents to the County Excise Board for approval of FY25 appropriations (motion by Monk, second Rice; vote 5‑0).
The board also approved receipt of $10,553.40 on June 30, 2024 for alternative education that exceeded previously appropriated funds (Form 307). The meeting record shows all votes on these items were unanimous.
