Commission denies request to change MPD condition to allow fuel pumps
Summary
The board voted to deny a requested change of conditions (RZ2024‑018) that would have allowed fuel pumps in an MPD. Applicant attorney argued the change would align the master plan with current C‑2 allowances; neighbors raised traffic and character concerns.

Barrow County commissioners denied a request to change master plan development (MPD) design guidelines to allow gasoline pumps on a 6.4‑acre portion of an existing commercial plan (RZ2024‑018).
Applicant counsel Chuck Ross told commissioners the project is part of a larger 2014 master plan and said the only issue before the board was whether to permit fuel pumps. "The only thing that is before you is whether or not there would be gasoline pumps at the location," he said. A nearby resident, Nancy Samuel, opposed the change, saying the commercial portion sits next to a residential area and a school and that she would not have purchased her home had she known a gas station would come: "I would not have bought my house on Roxy Maxey Road, knowing that a convenience store and gas station was coming 5 years later."
After deliberation a commissioner moved to deny the change of conditions; the motion was seconded and the board voted to deny the request. The denial preserves the existing MPD condition that had previously limited use to a convenience store without gas pumps.
