Residents urge River Ridge board to address Lake 8 flooding and foundation risk

Oak Run residents asked the board to apply Seaside-style re-grading to Lake 8 after reports that pooled water is seeping under foundations; engineers said similar work could address the problem and will be considered in next year’s budget.
Oak Run resident Rich Batterberry told the River Ridge board that homeowners were grateful for recent work at Seaside 1 and Seaside 2 and asked the CDD to consider similar measures around the Masters, citing persistent pooled rainwater near the monument and halfway down Lake 8 that he said is getting under home foundations. Batterberry said one resident incurred “significant costs” to mitigate water coming up through a floor.
Charlie Krebs, district engineer, reviewed the Seaside scope and said the Lake 8 issues may be addressed by similar re-grading because the area was never re-graded originally. Chair Bob Schultz said the matter would be considered during the Fiscal Year 2025/2026 budget process. Staff indicated the Lake 8 stormwater management project will be part of a forthcoming 10-year forecast that Long and Blumenthal will prepare for a future agenda.
No final funding decision was made at the meeting; the Board directed staff to include the item in budget planning so it can be prioritized and costed for the next fiscal year.
