The Barrow County Board of Commissioners approved several procurement and surplus items on Aug. 27 and tabled two vehicle purchases for two weeks pending further review of local‑preference options.
Emergency Services (S14) requested surplus approval for two older Ford trucks (2006 and 2008) and several thermal imaging cameras; the board approved the surplus and finance staff said proceeds will be recorded to the fire fund. Buildings & Grounds (S12) sought to purchase a 2024 Ford F-150 for $48,008.57 (agenda item 7d) and the transportation division sought a 2024 Ford F-150 for $49,032 (7e); commissioners voted to table both requests for two weeks while exploring local‑vendor options and other procurement mechanics.
Buildings & Grounds (S12) also asked to buy 12 HVAC units for the sheriff's office and elections office for $53,401 to avoid a refrigerant regulation change effective Jan. 1; the board approved that purchase. The board approved a $33,008.60 fryer purchase for the county detention center kitchen from Central Restaurant Products and approved surplus and purchase items for emergency services.
Approved items will be processed through the CFO and relevant departments; the two vehicle purchases will return to the board after staff explores local availability and any addenda to state contracts.
