Commission approves KCI design work, HVAC installation and initiates Old Howard King Road abandonment

The Barrow County Board approved several infrastructure and facilities items on Oct. 8, including authorization for KCI Technologies Inc. to complete database work and preliminary plans for the Atlanta Highway at Bowman Mill Road project at a cost of $33,950, and a services agreement with Jeff Hendricks LLC to install 12 HVAC units at the Sheriff's Office and Elections Office building for $56,599.
Public works staff said KCI had completed initial coordination (including comments from CSX) and needs the additional funds to finalize design and provide an updated cost estimate prior to bidding. "We are now to the point that we have got comments back from CSX in regards to this project," staff said. For the HVAC work, staff reported units are on site and requested authorization to proceed; the contract requires completion within 60 calendar days.
The board also approved a resolution initiating the abandonment process for the county right-of-way of Old Howard King Road between State Routes 324 and 81; staff outlined the required notifications to property owners and public notice steps that must precede a public hearing and final action. Finally, the board acknowledged a resolution from the Town of Bethlehem authorizing Barrow County to provide sewer service within town limits and authorized the chairman to sign the acknowledgement.
