The Barrow County Planning Commission recommended approval Thursday of a rezoning request that would convert roughly 4.95 acres at 1444 Sims Road from agricultural zoning to R-1 single-family residential.
Staff introduced RZ2024028 as a request by applicant and owner Kenneth Perkins to rezone the parcel to allow a single-family residence. At the public hearing, Perkins said he plans to subdivide a one-acre lot and build a house for his granddaughter. “I’m just trying to get my granddaughter a house… I’ve cut off 1 acre lot and trying to get rezoned so I can build a house for her,” Perkins said.
No members of the public spoke in opposition. After staff questions and no further comment, a commissioner moved to recommend approval with the staff’s conditions; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. The commission did not record individual roll-call votes in the transcript; the motion was identified as moved by District 5 and seconded by District 4.
The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Barrow County Board of Commissioners, which will hear the matter on Nov. 12 in the same meeting room. The transcript does not specify any additional conditions beyond the staff recommendation.
