Commission authorizes purchases of transit shuttle, extension truck and asset sales

Barrow County commissioners approved multiple vehicle purchases during the Oct. 8 meeting, including a 2023 Ford E450 teratransit shuttle bus for $117,370 under state contract and a 2024 Ford F-150 regular cab for the Cooperative Extension office for $37,002.45.
County staff (Candace) said the FY2025 CIP budget allocated $140,000 for the bus purchase, with $65,000 coming from SPLOST 2022 and $75,000 from the general fund CIP; after this purchase the SPLOST funds for the project will be fully utilized and $22,630 will remain in the general fund CIP. "This new bus will replace bus number 5006, which is a 2004 Ford E350 with 245,000 miles," staff said. The board authorized the purchase and also approved authorizing the sale of asset #5942 on GovDeals with proceeds returned to the vehicle replacement fund.
For the Cooperative Extension vehicle, staff requested an F-150 rather than the originally requested Maverick; the $5,007.45 difference from the CIP allocation will be covered by the vehicle replacement fund. The board approved both purchases and authorized the respective asset sales.
